The Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings, two teams from Triple-A International League, played the longest baseball game in professional baseball history. This game lasted for 33 rounds over and takes eight hours and 25 minutes. 32 innings played from 18 to 19 April 1981 at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

The game starts on Saturday, April 18, at 20:25 after a delay of about 30 minutes because of problems with the stadium lights, with 1740 in the audience. Several times, one side was winning before the situation changed. When Wade Boggs drove in the tying run at the end of lap 21 after running the Rochester, even the players groaned Pawtucket. He remembers that, “I do not know whether the people on the team wanted to hug me or slug me.”

After Pawtucket’s Luis Aponte pitched the seventh for the round of 10 in relief, manager Joe Morgan, who himself will be issued on inning 22 by Cregg. Let him go before the game ended. Aponte’s wife did not believe the explanation that her husband came home at 3 am Sunday. President of the league, Harold Cooper, finally spoke by telephone shortly after at 3:00. Cooper ordered that the game was stopped at the end of this inning. Finally at 04:07, at the end of the round-32 and more than eight hours after starting, the game stopped.

Both baseball teams signed on Sunday to display at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Cooper suggested that the game resumes that day, but Rochester manager Doc Edwards asked for a delay because of the risk of injury and the match resumed on Tuesday evening,

The Pawtucket Red Sox celebrate the 25th anniversary game on June 23, 2006. Many members of both teams attended a luncheon and roundtable discussion in Providence, Rhode Island, and the ceremony was held before the game against the Columbus Clippers. The event was held to commemorate the longest baseball game ever Played.
